Our history
1983
THE BEGINNING
The seed for Mezina’s success was planted in Denmark in 1983 by Torben Pedersen. A small family-owned business took root – ready to grow big. It all started in Esbjerg, in a closed-down butcher shop on Wille Moesgade. Here, Torben Pedersen launched the company with the supplements Selenium ACE, Neolic 9000, and Urizal, which still grace the shelves of health stores today. After a few years, Mezina moved to Grundtvigs Allé and a couple of years later, to Energivej.
1987
MEZINA EXPANDS TO NORWAY
In 1987, Mezina embarked on its international journey, establishing operations in Åmli, southern Norway. After success in our neighbouring country, the journey continued to Sweden and Finland.
1989
SALUS HAUS AND MEZINA
Torben’s son, Lars Pedersen, joined the company on June 1st, 1989. This date also marked the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration with the German company Salus Haus. As early as 1916, Dr. Otto Greither laid the foundation for Salus Haus with his ‘Salus-Cure,’ pursuing the goal of helping fellow humans with naturopathy and natural nourishment for healthy living. Over time, the Salus Haus product range expanded significantly, and in Denmark, we have a variety of tonics, elixirs, and tablets from the brand, including Floradix Kräuterblut.
1992
Velzina
The natural remedy Velzina, which is still on the market today, was introduced in 1992. It achieved tremendous success as one of the first products to include a mood barometer, allowing users to track their emotional progress. Today, there are two approved natural remedies in the Danish market containing St. John’s Wort, with Velzina being one of them.
1995
Transition of Generations
In August 1995, Torben’s second son, Claus, entered the company, marking the initiation of a transition of generations.
1999
NEW SURROUNDINGS
Mezina’s success created a need for larger premises, leading to the construction of a new headquarters on Energivej 4, where the company remains to this day. The new buildings were inaugurated on November 1st, shortly before Torben passed away on January 31st, 2000, at the age of only 57. Mezina’s new headquarters was nominated for the Esbjerg Municipality Architecture Prize in the year 2000.
2002
Nelson Bach and Mezina
In 1860, Nelson’s first homeopathic pharmacy opened its doors in London. In 1930, Dr. Edward Bach joined the endeavour, discovering that energy from the plant world could balance human emotions. He consequently developed the 38 flower remedies we know today. As of this writing, Bach Rescue is sold in over 85 countries, including Denmark and Norway, where Mezina has been responsible for distribution since 2002.

NEW VISUAL COMMUNICATION
In 2021, Mezina introduced a new visual communication centred around our digital marketing and sales through webshops. An example of this is the beautiful watercolour illustrations that adorn our products. At Mezina, we have always utilised natural ingredients in our supplements and natural remedies. One goal of the new visual identity was to further highlight our strong ties to nature in our communication, even more so than before.
